Wolf..The Hunt
Midnight..padded feet creep, silently
Snout raised..he sniffs the air
He stalks amidst the grey shadows
Almost a Phantom in silent flight
He stops, hear the howls of the night
He listens, a rustle on sharp ears
Keen nose nose tastes a trail
Dark shadow against yellow on cliff
Silently onward, his night journey begins
He walks with the pack, a magnificent leader of canine
Fearless he wanders, his trails he always marks
He sits on hilltop, the land he surveys
Stalking by moonlight, a creature of dark
He howls, He waits
In the distance, an answer, a snarl or a bark
One shadow..then another...another..fades away
The pack has followed all glimpses of grey
Suddenly from out of a bush
A rabbit runs, its destiny sealed
A tasty morsel for a canine well heeled
Now he travels fast, heart racing
A scream..silence
For there’s blood on the road
Life and death begin the struggle for survival
His mark has been made
A lust for the hunt
The pack will be ready
The moon is full on the ridge
This animal, a true intelligence
Beware..all you creatures..for tis a dark night
Only shadows float ..to almost eyes
And...danger...for...
The Wolf, a survivor.. stalks its prey
