i like birds my favourite is an european eagle owl, although i like any owl, little, snowy, barn and so on.
one day i hope to get a parrot, maybe when the diy is done.
we feed the garden birds every day and are amazed when we see new ones appearing.
if you like birds and would like to chat about them, then this is the place for you.
hope to see you soon "birdie friends"

recently we have been putting out fat balls, they have attracted so many birds.
birds like pied wagtails, we hadnt seen before.
blue tits, grey tits, robins, sparrows, black birds starlings, oh and even the great spotted woodpecker eat from the fat ball.
the magpies do try but give up, they arent very good at balancing _________________ js

We are very lucky to have fruit trees in our yard and these attract beautiful Eastern Lorrikeets .We also have gavilla's which attract a beautiful yellow and black honeyeater ...An a few seed trees that attract native silver eye finches ...Magpies also forrage in our yard together with blackbirds and the lovely pink turtledove...Occasionally we see black Cockatoos, pink and grey Galahs, Red and green King Parrots ..there are some coloured birds that I am not sure what they are but I am so greatful in a now very urbanised city to be living in an area that promotes such beautiful wildlife...We also have some native animals living in our back yard but thats another story...

Yesterday we were visiting me mum and dad and whilst we were out we saw a big flock of pure white Corellas ...they were beautiful and so funny they would land on the wires and swing underneath upside down ...it looked strange and I'm not sure why they did it but it may have been showing off to their lady friends...

if they were males then yes showing off sounds about right
2 great spotted woodpeckers today, one on each fatball, they cling to it upside down while bashing it with their strong beak.
other birds sit below waiting for the crumbs to fall (they arent silly either) why do all the pecking when the woodpecker can do all the hard work for you.lol _________________ js

I have always wanted to see woodpeckers in the wild unfortunetly we dont have any of those here.. What I do see quiet regularly is a beautiful back and White honey eater looks abit like a humming bird without the speed ..same sort of beak...We also see near out kitchen window agroup of silvereye finches on many mornings...Winter is hitting us now and many of the Birds are seeming to stay away abit ...I was thinking of buying some nesting boxes to encourage the parrots to nest in our back yard ...I will try this as we get closer to spring and see what we get .... _________________ Antipodi

since we've been puttin the fat balls out, we have seen many more different birds and the woodpeckers are one of them, we have 3 great spotted and 2 green woodpeckers. 2 jays this year too.
but it has attracted some unwanted attention tho, like sparrow hawks hoping for an easy meal (sparrow) and theres the huge black crows, they are a problem in that they eat all the ball and they cost nearly £1 a ball.
we have tried to stop them by hanging them on a bit of string (that failed)
now we have got a hanging wire basket hung up side down (it works) but the jays and doves cant get to it now.
any ideas ? _________________ js

aww
we have all baby birds around now, its really nice seeing the parents trying to make them independant, first they feed them, then trying to teach them how to find food, like from the fat balls.
last week i saved a birds life by stopping a magpie killing it, i banged onthe window it flew but came back then banged again it flew off and the other bird a blckbird or starlin (couldnt see it properly) recovered and flew. _________________ js
