i think this type of racing should be banned.

7 horses had to be put down in 5 days due to injuries.

some lovely horses have died because of mans greed.

i would never support any racing of animals, even dogs are used to make man money, alot of them are disgaurded after their use, some even shot.

this is not a nice thread, but i feel if more people know what goes on, they may not support these races.

I totally agree ...I have heard of these problems it is almost obsolete in Australia ..I dont think we follow it anymore ....But I do remember some bad accidents ...And yes the other side is the treatment of greyhounds..maybe we should do some threads on them as well...

Sadly Steeplechase racing seems to have originated in England ..many of the well to do follow it as a tradition ...It may be hard to stop completely...

although i am angry at horse racing, i also realize that while these horses have life, they are looked after well, fed groomed and excercised.

watching the news and i caught a glimps of the grand national (another steeple chase) i saw at least 4 horses fall,3 got to their feet.
my heart was in my mouth, so to speak. and i dint like the way they were being struck with the whip, i dont expect it would hurt the horse but then again how would i know and some really do look like they are beating it.

i didnt hear that any had to be put down. i hope that was the case.
