Hi there!
I like to think I love all animals and all living things, but I have a very real fear of spiders! I tried to read the thread about tarantulas (sp?) but there was a pic at the top and I actually felt a very strong fear in my head and my stomach and I had to click the back button very rapidly! I really want to get over this fear because it makes me feel stupid, because there's nothing to be afraid of. I know that, but there's just something in my head that does not like them.
I'm lucky in that my partner always removes spiders from the house because I'm too scared to remove them my self, and I don't want to see them killed or hurt.
Sometimes it really effects me because I used to work in a cattery and there were a lot of spiders, and I'd waste a lot of time being too scared to go into an area because there was a massive spider, and I'd get told off by my boss for taking too long to do things. I couldn't tell her it was because of the spiders because I felt so much like an idiot. Also, I keep Guinea Pigs and I want to make a shed for them to live in one day and I'm scared of the spiders that would live there. I want to go to Australia one day, but I know that when I get there, I'd just be thinking of the big spiders I might see.
Is there any way of curing this fear because it's really starting to bother me? Please don't post any spider pics on this thread because other wise I won't be able to read it any more ( how stupid does that sound?) Any advice greatly appreciated!
Love Gem.xXx

Arachnophobia is quiet common and we all have a deep respect of spiders but sometimes it gets abit haywire ..It is not bad to respect them for the danger they are ...for instance A Bengal Tiger is a beautiful animal but fear keeps most of us from touching or trusting it...this is a good thing as we would probably be eaten ...The same applies with many species...I will look into your problem and see if their is anything we can help with.... _________________ Antipodi

Thanks antipodi!
I have a respect for all animals, and you're right when you say we all respect the dangerous animals particuarly. But this is really different because I see tigers and even snakes and I know they're dangerous, but I don't freak out if I just see them at a distance or in a picture. I'd love to get it cured.

Hi Jan!
My friend does not like wasps either, but atleast there's a reason cos they're nasty and they sting you and they get in your face and don't go away. Spiders just like sit there and don't bother any one, so there really is nothing to be afraid of.
I hope I can get it sorted out.

Thanks for the link antipodi, but are there pictures on it? I won't be able to see it if there are, how silly! That's awful that you suffer from panic attacks. Are they random or does something set them off? I guess I kind of have a panic attack when I see a spider or even go into a place where there might be spiders. But it might not be as severe as an actual panic attack.

Thanx for your concern about the Panic attacks ...sometimes they feel life threatening but I have managed to control them to a certain degree ..I guees they are caused by that old favorite stress...and they feel like about of claustrophia and i have to literally "escape " the house even if its the middle of the night ...it weird...I'm talking to the doc about a pill called Zoloft apparently this may help...It seems to have no side effects ..like sleepness or lack of being alert ...BTW I noticed your thread on the Macca site ..seems alot of people have phobia's of some kind ..maybe its just the stressful world we live in ..it seems to be getting worse _________________ Antipodi

It is interesting you should say that I too do not like any for of medication ..But the background is ...I found out that my dad who is as strong as an ox even at 79 had Panic attacks apparently they started after the last world war He was stationed in new guinea in the airforce and he got Dengy fever ..just sfter he got it the Panic attacks manifest themselves and he just put up with them for years..A few years ago getting sick of havng them he saw a doc and the gave him Zoloft ..he has been taking it for a few years now and NO more problems in fact for a 79 y.o. he's very fiesty and still goes for 5 km walks every day ..in fact he tires the dog...so I have been very careful in deciding.. _________________ Antipodi

some had no or little side effects while others either killed themselves, became suicidal and some worse than the were before. everyone reacts differently to med. _________________ js

ive had panic attacks, they used to happen out side tho. very un nerving they were too. some how tho why i dont know, they have stopped.
let me tell you about my experience with xeroxat.
ok i took 1st dose first day.
2nd dose 2nd day.
on the 3rd day i took half a dose (cos i dont like taking meds of any kind)
that evening i was really ill, i sweated,i was shaking my hand and feet were like they were someone elses, my heart was pumping, my throat glands were pumping, i was dizzy and worst of all were the hallucinations when i lay down and shut my eyes. i thought i would have to go to hospital.
i still remember those pictures, they were so scary, it was a hellish nightmare i wouldnt want to repeat. i thought i could possibly have died.
they have actually done programmes on tv since about this stuff.
many people now have worse problems. some are dead and some very lucky ones are ok and it actually does work for them. i myself will not take any med for my phobia again. i risked my life taking that stuff, the stuff my doctor said was a miricle cure for my anxiety problems, he said its tailor made for you Jan. i dread to think what would have happened if i'd taken the full 3rd dose _________________ js
