Guinea Pigs ...The Ideal pet for Children Reply with quote
Hi Everyone Its official ....found this article just could resist sharing it with yah...

Ideal First Pet For Children

For millions of individuals and families around the world, guinea pigs are a favorite pet. In the United States alone, just over a million guinea pigs are kept each year.

While that is nowhere close to the 68 million dogs and 73 million cats that Americans raise, a closer look will clearly reveal why guinea pigs are such amazing creatures to those of us who have let them into our lives.

For many, guinea pigs were a first pet. They are ideal for children because they are larger and sturdier than other so-called pocket pets like hamsters or gerbils, and because they require less work than dogs or cats. They're also a pet that young ones can play with, touch, and enjoy, unlike fish or most birds.

Guinea pigs spread their sleep out through the day so they'll be able to spend quality time with the whole family. They also eat less and are easier to handle than rabbits, plus they don't require complex heating and lighting like snakes, or constant attention like dogs. Additionally, guinea pigs can provide affection (unlike fish), and are not nearly as noisy as birds.

Guinea pigs very rarely bite (they'd usually rather run for cover if they're frightened), and if they do its usually not hard.

In short, Guinea Pigs offer parents a controlled, low maintainence opportunity to teach their children empathy, responsibility, hygiene, and even social skills which empower them for a lifetime!

Of course, before you get your child a guinea pig you'll need to educate yourself on the various care routines which are required, and you'll need to supervise closely in the beginning. But the joy on your child's little face when they snuggle nose to nose with the little creatures, or when they hear their happy chirping is incredible and definitely worth the trouble!

Oh - one last thing - long haired guinea pigs aren't great for a first pet for children because their hair makes them a little harder to hold on to, and they require constant grooming! Opt for the short haired type instead until you've had sufficient experience.

Totally agree - great pets for everyone!
But no matter the size, every life in your care deserves the same degree of responsibility.

Absolutely...Piggies are great but I too have had many different pets including fish and Lizards and all are precious and rely heavily on the kindness and handling of the owner for their support love and wellbeing...Pets are a way of young peopleto learn some important lessons on life and the way we treat all things...
