Farmlife
I sit here on this rusty hill..contemplating
Below a soft green undulating valley ,
a small white cottage..flowers under windowsill
The Ol Dog sits beside me still
And we dream of a life that's free an easy..
More fencing needs to be done ..So I grabs me tools
I takes a sip of cold bottled tea .ahhh
Soon the cows will come on home
Darkness comes early in the winter chill
We corral the cows and secure the hens
Ol Dog races to and fro..now so much on the go
Chores to handle... must be done
Clean the hay-bales to the hayloft..
Another Bag of wheat for Mary to grind
So dark... now the lamp I find
Stoke the fire to roaring coals that crackle
Another log ..it burns so bright
Keep up the warmth on a cold cold night
We sit at the table enjoying dinner
Pass the potatoes please..Thankyou...Salt
Gee Mary this apple pie looks great..can I have another piece?
We talk for hours as we do the dishes
Off to bed for early morning start..
4 am the Cows to milk...
All lined up one by one
Into the stalls for a good chaff feed
Put on the Milking cups start the milk
6.30am Finished clean out the shed
Cows wander off ..chooks to be fed
Cat comes up hes got a mouse
Don't you bring that in the house
I smell that smell of bacon and eggs ..ahh breakfast
Finish up ..now chores to do
Things are hard and sometimes mundane
Still...
Fresh air and wonderful things to do and see
I hope it will always be
Sometimes I wish that I might just escape
But then there is one thing I would not change
For the country life will always be
A wonderful integral part of me
